MIDƐM+23: A Successful “Fusion” Event, the First Signs of a New Generation Midem

The music industry’s must-attend event since 1967 made its comeback in 2023.

This prefigurative and collaborative edition of the new MIDƐM+ was sponsored by Jean Michel Jarre and ran from January 19 to 21, 2023 in Cannes. It brought together artists and the general public alongside key players from the music industry, working together on the future of the ecosystem.

The Program

  • Live: 7 concerts, including 3 virtual reality and artificial intelligence experiments, 2 DJ sets, 1 sold-out showcase; 10 moments of intense harmony between artists, industry professionals and the general public, who felt a rush at the spectacular performances of Jean-Michel Jarre, Sofiane Pamart, Dorely, Fatboy Slim, Hyphen Hyphen, the Cannes National Orchestra, Cerrone, Oceanus Orientalis and Mulabs & Moullinex feat. Lala Tamar & Maalem Khlaid Sansi.
  • One space: the Gare Croisette venue and MIDƐM+ bar, with an OFF program in addition to the ON program.
  • Keynote speeches, round tables, and workshops with more than 25 speakers and moderators on subjects such as market trends, innovation with web3 and NFTs in particular, and women’s place in the music industry, dedicated to a sample of music industry professionals who are part of the brand new MuSee+ (Music Seekers +) community.
  • A collective intelligence workshop to co-construct the MIDƐM+ of tomorrow with members of the community: the “Strike” method made by Hopscotch to promote innovation.

Something New: Creating a Community With a Promising Start

This year, of the first 100 or so members, 84 were MuSee+ members from 5 continents and 14 countries. These included:  “Music Seekers+”, key representatives from the music industry, active members and stakeholders of the MIDƐM+ community, forming the music industry’s leading business club and think tank, among whom: Ghazi (Empire Records), Cécile Rap Véber (SACEM), Robb McDaniels (Beatport), Yoel Kenan (Africori), Nicholas Dunn (Horus Music), Laurence Oxenbury (PPL), Bertrand Burgalat (artist ambassador, SNEP, IFPI), Alexander Wolf (SESAC), Sébastien Borget (Sandbox), and more.

They came from three types of organizations: private companies (76%), professional organizations (21%), institutions (3%), and from all sectors of the music industry, including media and audio services, digital service providers (including streaming), labels, publishers, live operators, services (to artists and labels, live, etc.), rights managers, start-ups, an e-brand, a creative research institute, a creative industries management school, and so on.
